College Recruiting Tactic #1: The easiest strategy to get more email responses from college coaches
Dear Parent of a High School Athlete,
You’ve probably heard about sending emails to college coaches.
Maybe you’ve even tried to send a few on your own (or your kid has).
But you haven’t received much interest from your efforts.
Do you know why this is?
It’s because there’s one single factor that is 10x more important than anything else when emailing college coaches. And you’re not gonna like it.
Let’s say you sit down with your kid and put 10 schools on a target list.
“These are the schools I’d like to go to,” your kid says.
So you hunt down their email addresses and send them an email.
Do you think all 10 will open the email?
Spoiler: they won’t.
About 8 will.
So right off the bat, you’ve lost 20% of your target audience. Uh-oh.
But it gets worse.
Only 6 out of the 8 will likely need your kid’s graduation class and position (based on their current rosters).
Which means you’ve just lost another 20%.
But then we have to factor in how many coaches will actually click on and watch your video.
Because not all of them will.
Roughly 60% of coaches will watch your kid’s video, which brings us down to 4.
So if you’re keeping track, we started at 10, but we’re now only at 4 viable schools. But we’re not done yet.
Typically, 1 in 4 schools will think your kid is good enough to play at their school.
Sometimes it’s more, but often, it’s less.
Which means if you send 10 emails to coaches, how many get responded to?
One.
So what’s the single most important factor in increasing the number of email responses from college coaches?
The number of emails you send.
If you didn’t improve ANYTHING else about your email strategy, but simply increased the quantity of emails that you send…
You’d get more responses.
In this case, if you 2x the number of emails, you’d get 2 responses.
3x…3 responses.
4x…4 responses.
And so on.
I recommend shooting for a number like 100.
With our clients, we typically send upwards of 300-600. Sometimes more. This also includes follow ups to each school, which is an important part of getting email responses.
But this is also why our results are awesome.
It’s hard to fail when you send that many emails.
(And to be clear, we show clients how to automate the process of sending these emails. So it actually takes them less time to send 300 than it does for you to send 30 - you can learn more about our program here)
So what’s the lesson?
Send more emails.
Get more responses.
