Follow coaches.
Post content.
Send DMs.
That’s the standard advice for using social media to get recruited.
And it’s… basic.
Those are just the three buttons every platform gives you. Of course you should be doing them.
The real differentiator isn’t what you do.
It’s how you do it.
For many parents, social media feels like a foreign language.
Maybe you intentionally shielded your kid from it.
Maybe you’re comfortable on Facebook but Instagram and Twitter feel like a different planet.
But here’s the reality:
Social media is one of the most powerful recruiting tools available today.
And in some sports, it’s not optional—it’s mandatory.
You see athletes getting follows, DMs, and offers and wonder how it’s happening.
Some families just “get” social media.
Others don’t.
And you want to be in the first group.
Because this one skill leads to 59% more interest from college coaches.
We analyzed over 8,000 athletes and found that families gaining exposure across multiple platforms earn 59% more coach interest on average.
So if you’re only emailing coaches, you’re leaving a massive number of opportunities on the table.
At D1 Scholarship, our families have:
- Sent tens of thousands of DMs to college coaches
- Generated thousands of replies
- Earned tens of millions of dollars in scholarship offers
And social media is one of our primary ways of starting real conversations with coaches.
If you feel like you’re not maximizing your athlete’s social media for recruiting—or you don’t even know where to start—join us for the workshop on February 10th.
We’ll break down exactly what we’ve learned over the last 10 years, and what’s working right now in college recruiting in 2026.

Social Media allows you to contact any coach in the country with the click of a button.
You're able to introduce yourself to coaches on the other side of the country, show them what your kid is capable of, and start getting recruited by them...all in a weekend.

Most families spend thousands of dollars attending showcases & camps.
With social media, you can get just as much (if not more) exposure to college coaches from your living room couch.

Social Media is the gateway to building relationships with college coaches.
When a coach makes a scholarship decision, they offer athletes they know, like and trust. Social Media is the scholarship conversation starter.
"Just post some content." Randomly posting content won't get you very far. There should be an intentional strategy around the types of content you post and how often you post.
"Tag as many coaches as you can." Tagging is widely overused and can often do more harm than good. It's a great tool in your tool belt, but use it incorrectly and you'll annoy college coaches before the conversations event start.
"Send coaches your stats in DMs." Stats are not nearly as important as you think they are. College coaches find stats to be unreliable, and DM responses require a more complete picture of the athlete.
"Have your coach retweet your stuff." Here's the good news...you don't need your coach's following or clout to get interest from college coaches. You can generate most, if not all of it, yourself.
If your social media advice comes from a recruiting "advisor" on social media, it'll likely be difficult to get traction. Social media information is often watered down & outdated.
